"A New Perspective: International Women
Shakuhachi Masters, a Panel Discussion"
|
Historically,
up until well after World War II, women were not permitted
to play the shakuhachi. Fortunately this is no longer
true, and many women have entered the world of the shakuhachi.
In the present day the level of accomplishment of female
shakuhachi masters has become truly remarkable. We are
proud to have a panel discussion by twelve women shakuhachi
masters from six countries around the globe. This is a
rare gathering of very accomplished shakuhachi players
who will be sharing their perspectives and expertise.
The panel discussion is followed by an extraordinary and
perhaps first-time ever all-female shakuhachi concert
performance later in the evening. Panelists:
Elizabeth
Reian Bennett, Cynthia
Nyoen Chaffee, Nancy
Beckman,
Tomoe Kaneko, Kiku
Day, Tomie
Hahn, Anne
Norman, Bronwyn
Kirkpatrick, Elizabeth
Brown, Martha
Fabrique , Matsushita
